Children in Migrant or Ethnic Minorities
Call for papers for the international conference Children in Migrant or Ethnic Minorities: Demographic and Social Processes in a Comparative Perspective, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany, 16-17 May 2019
Organizers: EAPS Network Migrant and Minority Fertility in Europe and the Section ‘Migration and Ethnic Minorities’ of the German Sociological Association (DGS) in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock.
The conference aims to bring together researchers in demography and sociology who address the topic of fertility in minority situations from comparative perspectives. We aim at a broad range of contributions covering patterns, causes, and consequences of getting children and family formation. We are primarily interested in research addressing the heterogeneity within minority groups but also between minority groups, such as between different generations, between genders, or between different countries of origin, ethnic groups, or religious affiliations. Last not least comparisons between minorities and majority groups are welcomed. In addition to quantitative and qualitative approaches on the micro and macro level, we encourage papers employing mixed methods or focusing on methodological and theoretical developments.
We aim at producing a publication in the form of a book or a Special Collection after the conference. Therefore we especially welcome the submission of new work in progress. Deadline for applications: 15 November 2018.
