EPC 2014 in Budapest

The next European Population Conference will be held in Budapest, Hungary, June 2014.
On behalf of the Hungarian Demographic Community, Zsolts Speder announced the new venue during the closing session of EPC 2012 in Stockholm.

The new Council of EAPS

The General Assembly of EAPS which convened during the European Population Conference 2012 in Stockholm, Sweden on 14 June, elected the new Council of EAPS. This Council will hold office until 2016 and is composed as follows:
President: Franceso Billari (Italy)
Vice-President: Anna Cabré (Spain)
Secretary-General / Treasurer: Marc Luy (Austria)
Member: Clara Mulder (Netherlands)
Member: Zsolt Speder (Hungary)
Executive Secretary: Nico van Nimwegen (Netherlands)

EAPS Poster Awards at the European Population Conference 2012

Posters have rapidly developed into a major communication tool for researchers. During the 2012 European Population Conference some 300 posters were presented in three poster sessions. For each session an international jury of three experts selected the best poster which was then awarded with the EAPS Poster Award 2012. The juries were asked to judge the posters with respect to the quality of its content, the richness of information, the clarity of presentation as well as the way in which the poster was presented by the researchers involved.

The Jury for the first Poster Session consisted of Andreas Edel (chair), Thomas Lindh, and Clara Cortina. The EAPS Poster Award for this session was presented to:
Joan Pau Jordà, Joana-Maria Pujadas-Mora, Aina Moragues and Anna Cabré of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, for their poster “Approaching migrations through family names: the Barcelona area at the 16th century”.

The Jury for the second Poster Session consisted of Ettore Marchetti (chair), Sunnee Billingsley, and Suzana Koelet. The EAPS Poster Award for this session was won by:
Marcin Stonawski, International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA) and Cracow University of Economics; Vegard Skirbekk (IIASA), Michaela Potancokova, Wittgenstein Centre (IIASA, VID/ÖAW, WU), Conrad Hackett PEW Research Center and Brian J. Grim, Pew Research Center and Boston University, for their poster “Religious demography of emerging economies. Age structures and fertility in the BRIC countries and the global religious consequences of their economic growth”.

The Jury for the third Poster Session consisted of Anne Gauthier (chair), Eiwor Hoglund, and Jennifer Holland. The EAPS Poster Award for this session was presented to:
Jonathan Zufferey, University of Geneva, for his poster “Differences in migrants mortality: for a multilevel approach of spatial inequalities using a fine granularity. An application to Switzerland, 1990-2008”.
