Anton C. Kuijsten Foundation for Demography

This foundation was established on 19 June 2001 with the main goal to promote research on applied demography, notably by researchers in Central and Eastern European countries. To this end the foundation specifically promoted and supported regular ACK Seminars on Applied Demography, which were organised by the Charles University in Prague. The foundation also supported the ACK Library for Applied Demography at the Charles University, operational as from 2001, and any other activities within its scope.

The foundation commemorated prof. Anton C. Kuijsten, professor in demography at the University of Amsterdam, who died untimely in early 2000 at the age of 55 years. The foundation was granted EAPS auspices in 2001. Its Board consisted of Frans Willekens (chair), Henk de Gans and Nico van Nimwegen (members) and Ine Moers Kuijsten (secretary-treasurer).

In collaboration with Charles University (Department of Demography and Geodemography), two international seminars were organized in Prague in 2004 and 2007 respectively. During a special session at the European Population Conference 2010 in Vienna, dedicated to household modelling, and to which several family members of Anton participated, the foundation was abolished.
